Legendary quality is the second highest level of item quality available to players, situated right above Epic. It usually takes multiple end-game raid instance runs to acquire or craft these items. Legendary items are considered the most powerful items available to players. The names of legendary-quality items will appear in orange. There is also a higher category of items called Artifact that was introduced in Legion. These are the most powerful items in the game and their purpose is varied. Some are mandatory in order to do some content, some just become mandatory because they are very strong. Some are just to show off how lucky you are.

Heart of Azeroth |
The Heart of Azeroth is the Artifact neck item received by every player at the start of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. It’s not only incredibly overpowered (they had to disable their effects in the Shadowlands realm), but it’s still best in slot for some content. It also empowers some armor pieces by activating their azerite powers, giving more passive stats to the player.
“A living symbol of hope, borne by the champions of a dying planet. The fate of Azeroth will be shared by all her children.”

Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros |
Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros is a legendary hammer owned by the mighty Fire Lord Ragnaros. Always by his side, this powerful relic has the power to reduce to ashes any enemy who dares to confront him.The first step in this long journey is to obtain the Eye of Sulfuras, which drops from Ragnaros in the Molten Core. It’s a 3-4% drop rate chance, I got it in about 25 runs. I then crafted the Sulfuron Hammer, which was pretty expensive, but still do-able. I had to make another one for an achievement introduced in 10.1.7, but that’s fine. The legendary is cool and I love using it as a mog from time to time.

Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker |
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.
Did anyone say Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker?
The Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, ancient sword of Tonnerran the Windseeker, son of Al’akir, was snatched from him by Ragnaros himself. Accompanied by his two faithful servants, Garr and Baron Geddon, Ragnaros split the weapon into two parts, and offered one to each of his two underlings. Now both halves of the weapon rest in Molten Core, waiting there to be found. Each half (Bindings of the Windseeker - right and Bindings of the Windseeker - left) parts have a 3-4% drop chance, but I got these way before Sulfuras.

Warglaive of Azzinoth |
The Warglaive of Azzinoth, legendary weapons of the equally legendary demon hunter Illidan Stormrage! These two weapons together form the Twin Blades of Azzinoth, and once belonged to Azzinoth the Black Guardian. Defeated by Illidan during the War of the Ancients, Illidan seized it, and after several millennia of training with it, he settled atop the Black Temple following his defeat against Arthas in Northrend. 10 Illidan defeats and haven’t seen each of them drop (which is expected, at about 1% drop chance).
I’ll probably start farming it when I lose all my sanity. Because I now have my RaF account to help me, I’ve decided to start a weekly farm of Illidunce on my main warrior. And it seems that I’ve got pretty lucky as in the second week of killing the last boss of Black Temple, I got the off-hand variant of the Warglaive. Probably the next will drop in twenty years or so.
I WAS NOT PREPARED! So after I got the off-hand variant in the second week of farming, two weeks later I GOT THE MAIN-HAND ONE OHMYGODINAZZINOTHSNAMEITDROPPED! I was honestly expecting this to take a bazillion tries, but I guess I’ve been super lucky. WHOA!
As a bonus, on my birthday, I did the Timewalking raid again, so I could get the feat of strength that allows me to use the warglaives transmog on whatever character I want. That’s a cool gift.
- Skill: none
- Luck: very very very lucky
- Price: costs your sanity

Probably around 2045November 1st, traded all my luck
Thori'dal, the Stars' Fury |
Thori’dal, the Stars’ Fury is a legendary bow that appeared during Burning Crusade. Ancient artifact belonging to the High Elves, it was stolen by the Legion during the invasion of Quel’Danas. Since then, Kil’Jaeden has kept him preciously by his side inside the Sunwell Plateau. I had no idea that this could actually drop for a warrior, so YAY ME! Free legendary while I was farming… something. Although it’s rated at about a 5% drop, I got it after my sixth Kil’Jaeden encounter.
- Skill: none
- Luck: fairly easy
- Price: free
- Got: 1st September 2021
Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings |
Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings is a legendary mace intended for healers.Forged by the titans themselves and then given to Urel Stoneheart, the first king of the Terrestrials, this weapon has been destroyed during the war between the Terrestrials and the Iron Dwarves.
This is currently a work in progress and it’s gonna be for a while. I need to gather 30 fragments and I got only 5 in the first week, and another four in the second week.
Update: As expected, this was going to take some time, and it took 9 weeks in total. Full breakdown of Fragments dropped each week below.
Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6 | Week 7 | Week 8 | Week 9 | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Total (New) | 5 | 9 (+4) | 11 (+2) | 15 (+4) | 16 (+1) | 21 (+5) * | 25 (+4) | 28 (+3) | 30 (+2) |
*) I got lucky in week 6 because it was a Timewalking week and I could kill Yogg-Saron on that difficulty and get one extra fragment.

Shadowmourne |
Shadowmourne, the famous legendary axe supposed to be the nemesis of the equally legendary sword of Frostmourne, the Lich King’s favourite weapon. Imagined by the Ashen Verdict and by Darion Mograine, this runic blade has never been achieved, however, lest its future owner fall victim to the same torments that affected Arthas when he took possession of Frostmourne a few years before.
Just like many others, I am was stuck on the Blood Infusion quest of this for over 3 years. Because I got lazy and because it requires the most hard thing in the entirety of World of Warcraft: friends
Update: With the help of Grum, and some secondary accounts we managed to get past the Blood Infusion quest, which was holding me in place for more than three years. Now it’s time to start the grind as each boss of the twelve in the raid can now drop a “Shadowfrost Shard” and I need 50, so I assume this will take quite a few weeks.
I was lucky to get one extra shard in the start of the quest, as I still had the Lich King to kill, and then it took another seven weeks for all the shards to drop.
Week 0 | Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6 | Week 7 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 7 (+6) | 14 (+7) | 23 (+9) | 32 (+9) | 41 (+9) | 49 (+8) | 50 (+1) |

Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest |
Originally, this staff was a branch of the world tree of Nordrassil. However, a fire elemental named Volcanus decided to use it to destroy the tree. Fortunately, he was defeated and the branch returned to Kalecgos, who undertook to improve this branch into a formidable weapon. Later, the spirit of Terecgosa, a mighty dragon, slained by Arygos, merged with the weapon: thus was born the Dragonwrath.
This is currently a work in progress and it’s gonna be for a while. The initial farming part was pretty easy, but I’m stuck at one of the quests in the questline, which requires skill and patience (of which I have none). We’ll see how it goes. Edit: fuck this retarded stupid shit. the mechanics are so overcomplicated for content 10 years old, whoever decided to keep them like this should be kicked in the nards with a nerf gun.
- Skill: pretty hard to do because of shitty mechanics
- Luck: none
- Price: free
- Got:
Hopefully 2069Decided to abandon this.
Fangs of the Father |
The Fangs of the Father are part of an item set composed of two daggers: Golad, Twilight of Aspects and Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages. Wrathion, a young black dragon from Deathwing’s brood, has decided to turn against his father. Helped by the Ravenholdt, a thieves guilde, he’ll do anything to defeat his father.
I started this questline, and it will take a few Dragon Soul runs to complete, especially since I’m not doing the last two bosses, because fuck the spine of Deathwing. For the first part, I need to farm 333 Shadowy Gems, which are given by opening an Elementium Gem Cluster. Bosses from the Dragon Soul raid drop one or two of these, and each contain 3-9 gems, but usually 5-7. Here’s the weekly breakdown, killing only the bosses up to Deathwing and it’s shit spine:
Shadowy Gem | Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Total (New) | 39 | 106 (+67) | 171 (+65) | 230 (+59) | 291 (+61) | 333 (42) |
I’m lucky I didn’t open the last cluster I got on the kill of Ultraxion, as they are needed in the second part of this quest line, where I have gather 60 Elementium Gem Clusters. I also killed the next boss, so we start this farm with two clusters, but the entire farm should take another 4-7 weeks of weekly Dragon Soul clears. Guess I was pretty lucky, I only needed exactly 5 weeks of clearing Dragon Soul up to (and not including) Spine of Deathwing (which is fucking cancer).
Elementium Gem Cluster | Week 0* | Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Total (New) | 2 | 14 (+12) | 24 (+10) | 36 (+12) | 49 (+12) | 60 (+11) |
After getting all the Elementium I needed, the last quest involves killing Deathwing. I was lucky enough to have a good friend pretty much carry me through the fight, so I could finish the questline. Yay legendary knives from brother Wrathion!
- Skill: some reading required + Deathwing at the end. Tears are ensured.
- Luck: none
- Price: free
- Got: December 7th, 2023
Rethu's Incessant Courage |
This is one of the nicest legendaries I have. Out of the 240+ legendaries that Legion brought up, you get to craft this one. You need to defeat shit to get legendary essence, you need to mine shit, you need to smelt this, crafting it finally comes with a sense of accomplishment rarely seen. Totally love it and love how it looks.
- Skill: not much needed
- Luck: none
- Price: a bit pricey, but you can grind the materials yourself
- Got: Sometimes in 2019 or so
Ashjra'kamas, Shroud of Resolve |
This is the first legendary I got when it was current content. The way of acquiring it and empowering was pretty cool, even if its mandatory presence made it feel a bit “unlegendary”, it gave good powers and enabled nice end-game content, being very helpful during horrific visions and during the Ny’alotha raid.
- Skill: some skill needed
- Luck: none, everyone got this
- Price: free, just quest a bit
- Got: 15 January 2020 and upgraded to max in 23 April 2020
Rae'shalare, Death's Whisper |
Legendary bow of Sylvanas Windrunner, this only drops for hunters after the encounter at the end of the Sanctum of Domination raid. It used to give the Wailing Arrow ability, but that has been turned into a nice pretty talent for all the hunters. I don’t have this, I’ll probably farm it one day, when Shadowlands will become legacy loot content.
After “The War Within” patch dropped, the “Shadowlands” raids are easier to farm, and thanks to legacy loot, the chance of this dropping is higher. Got it on my second week of trying, after initially Grum traded it to my warrior.
- Skill: don’t fall between the cracks of the ice bridge
- Luck: all the luck in the world
- Price: forfeit your soul to the Maw
- Got: September the 9th, 2024. Yes, 9/9.
Nasz'uro, the Unbound Legacy |
This weapon is a recrafted version of the legendary Oathbinder. Designed solely for Dracthyr Evokers, it boasts an item level of 457 and is classified as a Fist Weapon.
It harbours a potent Legendary effect that augments your Empower spells. When triggered, it releases a sphere of Order magic that seeks a powerful ally.
- Skill: not losing sanity while killing Scalecommander Sarkareth every week for 47 weeks and not seeing it drop
- Luck: all the luck in the world
- Price: your sanity, again, and a lot of gold
- Got: Probably in 2069, when I’ll be bothered to try this boss weekly
Fyr'alath, the Dream Render |
Fyr’alath is a weapon Fyrakk, the last boss of Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope raid, uses in his non-dragon visage form. This weapon is a two-handed Strength axe that is sure to have additional passives and bonuses you shouldn’t miss out on, just like any other Legendary item in the game.
- Skill: probably same as above, kill Fyrakk enough times
- Luck: all the luck in the world
- Price: your sanity, once more.
Also about 100 buckaroos worth of gold, lmao.Reagents costs have dropped a lot, at probably less than 10 bucks worth of gold. - Got:
Probably in 2069, when I’ll be bothered to try this boss weekly7th March 2024
