The World Cup held in France in 1998 was one of the highest points of the Romanian National Team. It was pretty much the last hurrah of the “Golden Generation” of Hagi, Popescu, Dan Petrescu, Dorinel Munteanu and others, managing to get into the knockout stage of the competition after defeating Batistuta’s Argentina and the All-Star team of England (Neville brothers, Sol Campbell, Michael Owen, Paul Scholes, Les Ferdinand), and a draw with Tunisia. It was the tournament where the Romanian team shocked everyone by dyeing their hair blonde. They were eventually knocked out by the superb Croatian team led by Davor Suker, which went on to finish the tournament with a bronze medal. France went on to win their first World title at home and pinned Zinedine Zidane as one of the best players in the world in a final against Brazil.

I got this album from Rolland as well, because my copy was in a pretty beaten condition and wasn’t really collector-worthy. I will keep it though, next to this one.
