The Euro 2000 was the last great international Tournament that the some members of the “Golden Generation” played in. It was the Euro where the generation change began, with an infusion of new, younger players into the team. Romania got the bad luck of being in a fire group, along Germany, England and Germany. However, after a tie with Germany and a loss in front of the Portugal of Rui Costa, Joao Pinto and Figo, they managed a glorious and nerve wracking win against England, 3-2, to advance to the knockout stage, sending Portugal and England home.

However, bad luck didn’t leave the Romanian team, meeting in the Quarter-finals the great team of Italy, with Totti, and Inzaghi on a very good day, and against the defensive strength of Maldini-Nesta-Cannavaro-Zambrotta. Squadra Azzura eventually got to the final, but they got beaten by France, for back-to-back World and European glory.

I got this album from Rolland as well, because my copy was in a pretty beaten condition and wasn’t really collector-worthy. I will keep it though, next to this one.
