Blog Questions Challenge: Technology - 2025
Oh boy !!!
Haven’t done one of these in ages! So I was both honored and happy when I was tagged by sizeof.cat (1) to participate in this challenge. And since that post mentions typewriters, I knew I had to write mine on Luna!
Nowadays technology is all over the place and I’m not sure anymore if that’s a good thing, so I won’t delve too much in the (un)ethical use of tech and instead focus on the tech itself.
Where Did You First Get Interested In Technology?
This was when I was about 10 years old and a colleague from school brought me to a computer workshop. It was there where I started my programming journey on an ICE Felix HC-91. I am happy to own one (3) and I still love it!
What’s Your Favourite Piece Of Technology Of All Time?
That’s simple. It’s the radio. Once we discovered radio waves and learned how to harness and use them properly, we took the first giant leap in making the world smaller. The foundation of the modern world was built on radio waves.
From blasting Elvis to speakers around the world, to detecting enemy planes during war time, to air dropping a photo of your dog to a friend, everything is done over radio.
What’s Your Favourite Piece Of Technology Right Now?
The most recent computer I fell in love with was the 2011 MacBook Air, which is still a very usable beast in 2025, but the piece of gear I’ve recently started to use more is an older Canon DSLR, the EOS 400D which is old, but still works just as wet, reinforcing the idea that technology is as good as the purpose for which it is used.
Name One Cool Piece Of Technology We’ll Have In 25 Years!
Well ain’t this a bleak one? I’m sure that we haven’t yet peaked from a tech point of view, but we definitely went beyond that from a social one. So whatever tech we’ll have, I doubt it will be used for good.
So, regardless of what tomorrow brings, be it virtual reality, digital immortality, gene splicing, or post-apocalyptic sticks and stones, it’s important to understand the role of technology and prevent its use for nefarious purposes.
Closing Words
I actually loved writing this on the typewriter. The medium is ruthless, and every mistake is forever imprinted on the page. It makes you think more and act slower and makes you aware of the mistakes you do. It’s good therapy.
What’s yours? What gadgets put their mark on your formative years? Drop a comment, or feel free to consider yourself tagged.
I’m also explicitly tagging seb (2), who should write more : P
