This is an interesting theme, as I don’t usually consciously use affirmations, especially in the meaning of “phrases that can help move your thoughts and actions in a positive direction”. However, I find it fairly easy some times to repeat some things to myself, be it on a personal level or a professional one. I’m going to quickly share some to you in form of quotes or proverbs, as they seem to be good live advice, either for myself or for the ones around me.

  • Do your best, all the time, and the people that need to see it will see it.” This mantra is especially useful in the professional environment and will help you elevate your skills and move forward with your career. But watch out to not over do it, as it’s easy to become a mindless drone buzzing around for your corporation.
  • If he didn’t make himself smart in 30 years, you won’t make him smart in 5 minutes.” Yes, there are a lot of stupid people, online and offline, and we are forced to interact with them on a more or less often routine. Whenever you meet an idiot, turn around and walk away.
  • You’re not hungry, you’re just bored. Have a glass of water.” I have this written on a post-it and stuck to the door of my fridge and I can’t tell you how efficient it is. Also not buying junk food and sodas is a solid step ahead towards a healthier diet. I don’t want to say to avoid these 100%, but it’s better to drink some water from time to time instead of Cuckoo Cola.

Whether you use mantras, affirmations, post-its or some other method, constant reminders are a good way to form habits, and more especially, good habits that should help you improve your life.

Joe Crawford, aka ArtLung is hosting this month’s IndieWeb carnival, and the theme is Affirmations. Thank you for hosting and congratulations on your excellent post and idea!
