Fuck Chinese Tablets
I have laid my hands on some Chinese Chuwi HiBook CWI514 tablet and somehow I cannot install the drivers for the touchscreen under Windows, after trying about 15 variants. I eventually found a driver that installs, but the touches are way off. The funny part is that the touchscreen works just fine in the bootloader. And while we’re at it, fuck Windows as well, Win10 is such a fucking bloated over engineered underoptimized piece of shit.
I didn’t care too much about this, but I was more curious to have it as a low powered and handy tool for Windows-related tasks or debugging, but it seems it’s just junk, no matter how much paid articles try to make it look good.
For the sake of what’s saint, please stop buying shit just because it’s cheap.

Luna Amară - New Bootleg
As I said before, I really like making bootlegs, either on Minidisc, or on cassette tapes,or even both. I’ve even bootlegged some Black Mirror Soundtracks. So when Luna Amară posted a fun photo on Instagram, a collage of their ID photos where they tagged the Romanian Police, I thought the image could be a really nice cover for a “Best Of” bootleg tape. However, there’s a small issue, as the “best of” would contain at least 65 tracks, the number of “Loved” songs from them I have favorited in my music player, so I really had to tone down the “Best Of” idea to “Some really nice songs”. So without further ado, here’s some photos below.

Diggnation is back!

Diggnation is back! After a 73-year break, the guys are returning with all new episodes. Diggnation covers the top stories from around the internet. Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht give you their unique, sometimes awkward, and always hilarious take on the edges of the internet. Just a couple of geeks sitting on a couch.
Probably the first podcast I’ve ever watched, back before podcasts were actually a thing and when video production was way way more complex. There are already 9 episodes released and I love to see that the same vibe is present in the videos and they are a bit older, but just as fun. This is not a nostalgia trip, this is a blast from the past and I love to see them back, I got goosebumps hearing and seeing the intro once again, I’ve linked it below in one of its earlier variants.
Many thanks to Vlad for telling me they’re back, as he’s the one that shown me this in the first place, almost 20 years ago.
See them on youtube, or on their website. They also offer an audio podcast RSS feed if you’re old school.

Fix Brown Filter of Shit in VLC
I was talking earlier about Dune Prophecy and how the production seems to suffer from the most-recent fad in cinematography, the brown filter of shit, that makes it literally unwatchable if you don’t have dolby surround 69bit HDR capabilities. Some of us just want to watch shit on our older devices as well.
However, there’s a fairly simple and fast way to fix this in VLC, while playing a video.
From the menu go to Window -> Video Effects
(Cmd+E on Mac, probably Ctrl+E on other platforms), tick the Image Adjust
checkbox, then bump the Saturation and Gamma sliders as desired (by more than half in my example) until you’re happy with the results. Ta-da!

Squeaking Game
Starting Season 2 of Squid Game, I forgot how annoying Korean movies can be when the characters start to yell overdramatically at each other over the simplest shit.

Steam Deck & Nintendo Switch
Steam Deck #
Got the 512GB model, with LCD screen, a couple of months before the OLED model came out. The console is still bonkers, so there’s no real reason to get the new one, at least for now. I’ve also got a 3rd party Glissmo 6-in-1 dock from Amazon, with HDMI 2.0 4K @ 60Hz, Three USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet, 100W PD charging port.
Nintendo Switch #
Got the white OLED model, which came with Super Mario Bros. Wonder bundled.
I’ll write more about gaming on these, I’ve already spoken about a few: Sven - Completely Screwed, Golf Club Nostalgia, The Cub, The WereCleaner, Find All (Collection) on the Steam Deck and Suguru Nature, Super Mario Party Jamboree on the Switch.

Fuck your walled garden
Today a short article appeared in my RSS reader, On featured images in blog posts, written by Manu whose blog is one of the best in my reader.
It linked to an article written by Nelson about AI-Generated Images Discourage Me From Reading Your Blog. I liked the article and I was ready to subscribe to his RSS feed, but when I wanted to leave a short comment, I was dumbstruck to notice that Nelson’s comment system is powered by giscus, a tool which while is open source, relies on github to work.
Look, AI-generated content is shit, and also overbloating articles with useless info is bad, but forcing people to use fucking github in order to comment on something on a personal site is just as bad. Nah, fuck it, it’s even worse. Make your own stuff, especially when you’re calling yourself a developer, or just don’t enable people to comment (like Manu does).
The internet is full of problems, be a solution.
