After I [removed] myself from reddit, following the antics of a little pigboy named u/spez, I had to return back to the roots. Fired up an RSS Reader (more about that soon) and started to see who’s alive and who’s not.
Among the feeds I had and I added, I also decided to closely follow some Youtube channels. However, they don’t offer an easy way to subscribe to a channel’s RSS feed, because they’re fucking Google and they don’t give a shit.
However, the location of the RSS feed is at
https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=YOUTUBE_CHANNEL_ID
While Channel URLs were initially quite long and had the YOUTUBE_CHANNEL_ID
embedded into them, for example UCm9K6rby98W8JigLoZOh6FQ
for LockPickingLawyer, now all of these have disappeared and they have been replaced by @username
vanity URLs which in places are no better than the channel ID (https://www.youtube.com/@MaruOfficialmusicbymaru).
However, there’s an easy way to find the channel ID from any browser. You right click on the page, choose “View Source” or “Show Page Source”, and search for “browse_id
”. Get the value of that (UCIEorBVAFF-Qfm5EXjesybg
in our case) and add it at the end of the URL mentione above and you’ll get https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UCIEorBVAFF-Qfm5EXjesybg, which it the RSS Feed of that channel.
