Explore a land filled with lost legends, ancient powers, and ferocious monsters in TUNIC, an isometric action game about a small fox on a big adventure.

It is set in a ruined fantasy world, where the player controls an anthropomorphic fox on a journey to free a fox spirit trapped in a crystal. The player discovers the gameplay and setting by exploring and finding in-game pages of a manual that offers clues, drawings, and notes. The backstory is obscured; most text is given in a constructed writing system that the player is not expected to translate. Tunic’s isometric perspective hides numerous pathways and secrets.

This is a brilliant game. The music is absolutely great, and combined with the lack of dialogue, it sets a really nice mood. The open world is a bit too much sometimes, and I needed some walkthroughs at some points, as there are many places to go. The game gives some hints, but some things (like the fast travel network or the abilities upgrades) are quite hidden and need some explanations.

Regardless, the game is fantastic and it’s definitely one of the best games I’ve played in the last few years. The cute fox character, the isometric perspective, the vibrant colors, the decent combat mechanics and the music all add up to an extraordinary game, worth spending about 8-10 hours to beat.

Because the developers moronically decided that The Quarry should be a very long run with no save points, it means that if you die during this part, you’re going to have to do the entire run from the last statue in outerworld. After progressing 10-12 times and getting past two save points put in the road and unaccessible, then it’s time to call it quits. This could have been magnificent, but turned to shit in a matter of seconds. No filthy casuals allowed.

Six Three stars our of five.
