The Nokia 3310 is a discontinued GSM mobile phone announced on 1 September 2000, and released in the fourth quarter of the year, replacing the popular Nokia 3210. It sold very well, being one of the most successful phones, with 126 million units sold worldwide, and being one of Nokia’s most iconic devices, being still widely acclaimed and has gained a cult status due to its reputation for durability.

Basically some think this is the best telephone in history, up to meme level.

Several variants of the 3310 have been released, including the Nokia 3315, 3320, 3330, 3350, 3360, 3390 and 3395, which were pretty much the same phone, but with either different antennas or more functionalities (like WAP), as well with subtle case differences.

Speaking of the case, the phone can be customized with the interchangeable Xpress-On covers system that made Nokia pretty famous, as users could personalize their phone, thousands of different cases being made by Nokia or other manufacturers.

The Nokia 3310 served as a starting base for other phones, like the QWERTY text-oriented Nokia 5510.

It’s amazing how in 2023 the phone still feels sturdy and easy to use, with an average weight (it’s lighter than my iPhone, feels as light as a mid-tier Android phone) and it still amazes me that people used to keep this phone in leather belt cases. Too bad that Nokia doesn’t exist anymore and all phones are now just black mirrors.
