This article was supposed to be a part of the Old Computer Challenge 2025, but I did too many things and got a bit overwhelmed, plus that the idea I had required more time and planning, so it’s going to be put in my to-do list for a while. Until then, enjoy this little post.

A few weeks ago, I used the Sony Vaio that I used for last year’s OCC to rip some Video 8 tapes that I bought from a boot faire, along with two cameras, a Grundig LC 145 E and a Sony CCD-TR350E which are very similar, even their batteries and chargers are interchangeable, no idea if this was a normal thing back then, but it was surely nice to see.

I decided to do this part on the Sony Vaio that I used for last year’s OCC, as I would only need to connect the camera to the USB capture card, open the application, hit Record and just swap tape cassettes every 90 minutes or so. I took the resulting videos, copied them to my PowerBook and started to edit them, breaking them into clips and checking them out. I could post bits and pieces here, but they’re pretty private videos, so I won’t. You can see however a few screencaps, so you have an idea.
