Foreword by me

The contents of the post below were translated by me from the original post made by skaarj in the Z80 Romania Facebook group. I decided to take its content and post it publicly, along with the files. The article itself explains in broad strokes the content of each of the directories in the archive, and at the end of the article, you can check the file listing of the archive, or download it and play with it.

Treasures!!!!!
Please use Notepad++ or other good editor for viewing.
I even managed to split some of them into individual files.

Through the kindness of Mr. Adrian-Iulian Mitrofan-Bitca](https://www.facebook.com/adrianiulian.bitca) who collected and put in my hands a series of ancient storage tapes for FELIX and CORAL, look what miracles I managed to extract:

1. CONVMIC - runs on CORAL and INDEPENDENT

Developed at the Institute of Scientific Research and Technological Engineering for Computing and Informatics, the current ICI. (I gave them an email, they didn’t even notice me!)\ It is a data conversion program between mainframe systems and mini-computers running CP/M. It contains all the documentation inside;

2. The complete manual in Romanian for the AMS - Adaptable Multifunctional System - operating system for the Independent I-100.

This operating system was developed at the Research Institute for Computer Technology in Bucharest. That is, the current ICI. (I sent them an email, they ignored me…)

3. Set of programs for CORAL systems:

  • Control system for a CNC machine;
  • Games;
  • Pascal programming language.

4. DATES -

Program for saving, restoring, comparing and duplicating diskettes. Completed for each variant of the calculation system available at that time in Romania. Including for CP/M;

5. For Felix-C256:

the database for the management of products available through 1989 at ICRM - Intreprinderea de comert cu ridicata Suceava (Suceava Wholesale Trade Enterprise);

6. ISS Suceava - some institute responsible for the health of society.

Tape for servicing/maneuvering - probably for diagnosing and adjusting the operation of tape units type IZOT-CM5509 from the FELIX-C system component. Just like tapes for calibrating tape recorders;

7. ITCI Suceava - some institute or computer center

RSX-11M operating system backup for CORAL;

8. Tape without any label, named “no name 0”.

Management program for Felix C-256. Attention, it is in French!

9. Tape named “no name 1”: Backup RSX/11M dated May 1986 for CORAL.

A portion of the strip was cut, probably to be tied to the vine. So… incomplete.

10. RSX11/M full backup dated April 1989. For CORAL.

11. SESAM for FELIX series C.

Authors - Masek Corneliu and Mihai Martinovici.
SESAM is a subsystem for editing and entering tasks (programs) in execution under the HELIOS operating system. It allows editing and running programs at the alphanumeric terminal level and the results are obtained directly on the screen. This program was revolutionary in its time because it ELIMINATED THE PUNCHED CARDS AND THE PRINTING OF THE RESULTS ON TELEPRINTER PAPER.

12. Medical database listing a series of symptoms.

One of my tape drives caught fire during recovery. Therefore, what is on the site is served by the two machines in the picture.

Closing thoughts by me

At the ending, I need to once again congratulate and thank at the same time to the dedicated people that care about these little bytes and make them see the light of a screen once more.

  • skaarj is a very passionate and dedicated persons with a lot of great projects, to name a few: one, two, three, four – Links are in Romanian, but you can use any translator. Very cool stuff.
  • Adrian-Iulian Mitrofan-Bitca is a very cool person, one of the admins and leaders of the incredibly vast Z80 Romania website and of the Z80 Romania Facebook group, an amazing person and someone I love collaborating with.
  • Many others that will be credited in other posts.
