Stumbling over the interwebs, I found a website (which I won’t link) which sells for hundreds of dollars old posters made in Communist Romania to advertise foreign movies at the cinema.
Because of the strong belief that the “Almighty Communism” was better than any other ideology [citation needed], the capitalist movies coming from the West (either Western Europe or America) were either heavily censored, or not imported at all, to properly protect the hard-working Romanian population from the dangers of capitalism.
But because their existence wasn’t easy to conceal, the Communist regime of Nicolae Ceausescu decided to import these movies anyway, along with a ton of Indian movies from Bollywood, to show to the Romanian people, of course after being properly reviewed and edited by the censorship committee. This way, these imperialist movies about sin, wastefulness, debauchery and lack of moral values were sanitized and presented to the Romanian people, to show them a glimpse of the non-existence of moral compass in the West. The list is filled with well-known classic movies, and they seem to be more or less a checkbox for any serious cinephile.
Without further ado, the list is below. You can see the movies’ titles, the year when they were released, as well as the poster format using the International Paper Sizes and Measurements (A-sizes or B-sizes)
