Because Ionut and Luci were visiting, I spoke with Marius and Betty and decided to go and have a nice quiet evening on the shore of Paltinu Lake. However, we didn’t stay long, as some passers by stopped to notify us there was a momma bear and three cubs like 50 meters away. Of course, we ran our asses off, as we’re not stupid.
Paltinu Lake is a reservoir for drinking water, offering a breathtaking view. Both sides offer favourable conditions for the settlement of picturesque camping and holiday homes. It is located in a picturesque mountain area in the basin of the Doftana River, in the Prahova county, Romania.
The Doftana Keys are at a few kilometers from the lake, as well as the Old Church ruins in the Traisteni village or the hundreds years old natural pine reservation Glodeasa.
The mountain routes are marked towards the Cazacu Peak, Baiului Mountains or Pasul Predelus. For tourists that arrive in the village Valea Doftanei (the Doftana Valley) is almost impossible to get bored. There are dozens of sheepfolds where anyone can learn some old recipes for cheese preparation, you can make trips and mountain excursions through the surroundings.
Built between 1968 and 1970, the dam has a height of 108 m above the foundation, the rate of dam crest is at elevation 654 ASL, total length of the dam crest is 455 m. It hosts a 10MW power hydroelectric central that is equipped with two Francis type turbines.
