Four vignettes about the lives of the Cuban people set during the pre-revolutionary era.
This is a really beautiful movie. It does have some not-so-subtle hints of propaganda, showing caricatured examples of capitalism, which are actually not far away from the truth. It kinda failed at that since Cubans saw it as stereotypical and Russians saw it as not politically revolutionary enough. Apart of that, it’s a beautifully made movie and it shows many of the aspects of the life in Cuba showing capitalism in its most pure form, the increasing gap between the rich and the poor, the injustice towards the latter, pushing the masses towards the communism which made possible the revolution led by the Castro. Six popcorns for a movie that is maybe one of the best of the sixties and goes into the Movie Vault.
