The Wandering Earth II (2023)
Humans built huge engines on the surface of the earth to find a new home. But the road to the universe is perilous. In order to save earth, young people once again have to step forward to start a race against time for life and death.
Another great screen adaptation of a book by Cixin Liu (after the great adaptation by Tencent of Three-Body // 三体). The effects are great, the story is well written and although there’s a hint of propaganda, all movies are that. All in all, a solid cyberpunk sci-fi coming from outside Hollywood, that not only looks magnificent, but also well written. Seven popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
The origin story of renegade warrior Furiosa before her encounter and teamup with Mad Max.
If it’s in the desert and has skull-adorned steampunk vehicles and clothes and guns, then it’s definitely a Mad Max. While movie is pretty predictable, I honestly don’t care. I wasn’t expecting a life-changing masterpiece, I expected some eye-candy steampunk universe with a lot of explosions. All in all, four popcorns. This is a good blockbuster, properly fitting in the Mad Max universe.

Moonwalkers (2015)
After failing to locate the legendary Stanley Kubrick, an unstable CIA agent must instead team up with a seedy rock band manager to develop the biggest con of all time-staging the moon landing.
Funny english gangster movie, with great performances from Rupert Grint and Ron Perlman, under the great direction of Antoine Bardou-Jacquet (director of the Wacky Races Peugoet 208 commercial). All in all, a great fun movie. Four popcorns.

Jack the Bear (1993)
Danny DeVito is John Leary, a professional clown, whose wife’s death in a car accident has left him to care for his two young boys.
Danny DeVito is brilliant as always in this funny drama, or this dramatic comedy. The cast also has a ton of well-known faces, including a young Reese Witherspoon and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Five popcorns and goes into the Movie Vault.

The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976)
An alien must pose as a human to save his dying planet, but a woman and greed of other men create complications.
Crash landing on Earth from his dying planet, an alien humanoid traveling by the name Thomas Jerome Newton (David Bowie) uses his superior intelligence to build a vast business empire. As he takes on, and beats, every US corporation, people can only guess his true purpose: to save his dying world from agonizing death from drought. Newton’s ageless fall from grace, as he becomes prey to lust, alcohol, business rivals, and the US Government makes THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH not only a bitingly caustic indictment of the modern world but also a poignant commentary on the loneliness of an outsider. Six popcorns and takes off to the Movie Vault.

El ángel exterminador // The Exterminating Angel (1962)
The guests at an upper-class dinner party find themselves unable to leave.
Interesting dark comedy, fantasy movie. It’s about some people that join a party and they are mentally blocked from leaving. It’s interesting, funny, philosophical, seems like a “Twilight Zone” episode (probably inspired tens of them) and keeps you to the edge of the seat until the end. Five popcorsn and goes into the Movie Vault.

Lolita (1997)
An English professor falls for a minor, and has to face the consequences of his actions.
Lolita is a 1997 French-American drama film directed by Adrian Lyne. It is the second screen adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel of the same name and stars Jeremy Irons as Humbert Humbert and Dominique Swain as the infamous Lolita. Weird, raunchy, forbidden and interesting at the same time. Four popcorns….

Les Visiteurs // The Visitors (1993)
A medieval knight and his servant ask a familiar wizard to move them back in time to prevent father-in-law’s accidentally killing. Instead, they fly away to the 20th century.
This is French Monty Python or some shit. It’s sometimes funny, sometimes cringe, Jean Reno is really good as always, but the movie lands quite short. These fucking French suck at being funny. Three popcorns.

Umberto D. (1952)
An elderly man and his dog struggle to survive on his government pension in Rome.
Simple, honest and devastating, De Sica’s Umberto D is one of the most moving and unsentimental portrayals of attachment, dignity and suffering ever made. Filmed in Rome entirely without professional actors the story is of retired civil servant Umberto, struggling to survive on his dwindling pension. With his only companion his loyal dog Flag, he faces eviction from his home by his tyrannical landlady who rents out his room to couples when he is away. His desperate, failed attempts to raise money lead him to contemplate suicide but he realises that he first must get rid of his dog. Seven popcorns and goes into the Movie Vault.

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Wade Wilson is offered a place in the MCU by the TVA, but instead recruits a variant of Wolverine to save his universe from extinction.
Cameo galore, meta over the topp, super funnyy and cool, with a ton of connections to a ton of other movies and casually shattering the fourth wall repetitively. All in all it’s a great fun blockbuster, gets six popcorns as it’s one of the funnest movies of 2024.

O vară de neuitat // Un été inoubliable (1994)
Romania in the 1920s. Marie-Thérèse Von Debretsy (Dame Kristin Scott Thomas) refuses the advances of her husband’s commanding officer. As a result, the cosmopolitan family is reassigned to a dark and dangerous outpost on the frontier between Bulgaria and Romania where their relationship and humanity are severely tested.
One of the best Romanian movies, telling the tale of a Romanian soldier and how war forces him to lose either his humanity or his dignity. Excellent movie with a brilliant cast. Six popcorns and it goes into the Movie Vault.

In The Company Of Men (1997)
Two business executives–one an avowed misogynist, the other recently emotionally wounded by his love interest–set out to exact revenge on the female gender by seeking out the most innocent, uncorrupted girl they can find and ruining her life.
Starting from an evil plot, this is fun, funny, raunchy, misogynistic, politically incorrect, dark, sad, cruel and brilliant at the same time. Another great movie masterpiece by Neil LaBute, with the great acting of Aaron Eckhart, Matt Malloy and Stacy Edwards. Five popcorns and goes into the Movie Vault.
