A loose remake of 12 Angry Men, set in a Russian school. 12 jurors are struggling to decide the fate of a Chechen teenager who allegedly killed his Russian stepfather who took the teenager to live with him in Moscow during the Chechen War in which teenager lost his parents. The jurors: a racist taxi-driver, a suspicious doctor, a vacillating TV producer, a Holocaust survivor, a flamboyant musician, a cemetery manager, and others represent the fragmented society of modern day Russia.

The story is not new, it has the same setup of “12 Angry Men”. However, Russian cinema master Nikita Mikhalkov, who wrote and directed this masterpiece, and also acts in it along some of the best Russian actors, did a great job at adapting the story to the Russian life and reality. Five popcorns.

“Fargo” season five has gone out in a blaze of guns, debt, and conversations about sin. The fifth installment of Noah Hawley’s crime anthology follows Dot Lyon (Juno Temple), a housewife suddenly targeted by a ruthless sheriff from a neighboring county.

After a different season four, the fifth one comes back to the Fargo classic setup where apparently normal people get put into overcomplicated situations. Solid performances across the board plus great writing make this Season one not to miss. Six popcorns.

The fourth season of Fargo chronicles the legacy of American Gangs, while also highlighting white supremacy and capitalism’s role in that legacy

Bit different from the other seasons, didn’t feel like a Fargo at all until close to the end when some things start to fall into place. Regardless, a solid performance from Chris Rock as a mobster boss, which was both odd and fresh to see. Six popcorns.

This season follows the lives of a couple, Ray Stussy (Ewan McGregor) and Nikki Swango (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), who, after unsuccessfully trying to rob Ray’s wealthy older brother Emmit (also played by McGregor), become involved in a double murder case. One of the victims is an old man with a mysterious past whose stepdaughter, Gloria Burgle (Carrie Coon), is a policewoman. Meanwhile, Emmit tries to cut his ties with a shady organization he borrowed money from a year before, but the company, represented by V. M. Varga (David Thewlis) has other plans.

The third season brings a bleak and dark story which is acted perfectly by Ewan McGregor and the others and it’s close to a masterpiece. Definitely seven popcorns as well.

This season is a prequel to the events in its first season. In season two of Fargo, it takes place in March 1979. It is about the lives of a young couple—Peggy (Dunst) and Ed Blumquist (Plemons) as they try to cover up the hit and run and homicide of Rye Gerhardt. Ray is part of the Gerhardt crime family.

During this time, Minnesota state trooper Lou Solverson (Wilson), and Rock County sheriff Hank Larsson (Danson), investigate three homicides linked to Rye.

The second season brings a new story in the same space and connected to the previous one through Lou Solverson. The writing is just as good, it has its gore moments as well as its funny moments. I love Nick Offerman playing a crazy, but crazy good lawyer, and I also loved the personal empowerment speeches from Kirsten Dunst where she has aspiration and dreams of being an actualized woman, ignoring the reality that the fucking Mafia is out to get them.

Easy seven popcorns for a second season that didn’t disappoint.

On the brink of revolution in 1989 Romania, six lives intersect amid protests and personal struggles, leading to the explosive fall of Ceausescu and the communist regime.

Excellent dark comedy/drama about the life of some people during the last days of the communist regime. It’s pretty much one of the best Romanian movies of the last years. Six popcorns and it jumps into the movie vault.

Set from January 2006 to February 2007, the season follows hitman Lorne Malvo (Thornton) who stops at a hospital in Bemidji, Minnesota following a car accident and influences local mild-mannered insurance salesman Lester Nygaard (Freeman) with his violent and deceptive ways. Their meeting sets forth a series of murders throughout the city. Meanwhile, Deputy Molly Solverson (Tolman) of Bemidji and Officer Gus Grimly (Hanks) of Duluth attempt to solve several crimes across the state that they believe may be linked to Malvo and Nygaard.

I kept putting this off for a long while and only now I realize what a fool I’ve been. The show is absolutely great, the story is well told and it’s one of the best crime shows. I’m going to write about each seasons separately, as the show is not a series per se, as much as collection of mini-series only connected by their location and some easter eggs. However, the first Season is very strong, with great mystery and keeps you on the edge of the chair and I fucking binged these ten episodes in less than two days. Seven popcorns and gets into the Movie Vault for sure.

Reminds me I need to re-watch the feature movie, which I saw last time in 2015.

Private detective John Sugar investigates the disappearance of Olivia, the beloved granddaughter of Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel. As Sugar tries to determine what happened to Olivia, he unearths Siegel family secrets, old and new.

Great TV series with a film noir mood in a modern Los Angeles, about a private investigator on his trip to find some rich girl that went missing. But he finds out much more than he bargained for. There’s a twist athat everyone on forums spoke about, it’s right at the end of episode six. I loved the splices from old movies that really help moving the story, as well as being nice easter eggs. Five popcorns and can’t wait for Season Two, but don’t search for things about it, you will definitely get spoilers!**

Continues the story of Nier: Automata Ver1.1a. In some places, you’ll see these as episodes 1 to 12 of Season 2, in other places, as episodes 13 to 24 of Season 1. Either way, the writing is great, completing the story of Humanity and its android protectors. Brilliant post-apocalyptic sci-fi watch, even if you’re not a fan of anime. Seven popcorns as well.

In a coastal town in northern Spain, which has seen its industrial development grow at an uncontrolled pace, a group of men walk its steep streets every day, looking for emergency exits. They are tightrope walkers at the end of the month, without a safety net and without an audience, without applause at the end; they live on the tightrope of precarious work and survive thanks to their small joys and routines. Great drama, great acting and the funny moments make the best of this. Four popcorns.
