Conan The Barbarian (1982)
A powerful warrior seeks to avenge the genocide of his people and the murder of his parents at the hands of a snake cult.
Arnold is zug zug, Darth Vader is a bad guy again. In an ancient land, young Conan witnesses his family being slaughtered by an evil snake cult ransacking his village. Raised as a slave, the adult Conan (Schwarzenegger) rises up through the fighting pits, becoming an unparalleled and fearsome warrior. Unexpectedly freed, Conan and his companions - two fighters, Subotai (Gerry Lopez) and Valeria (Sandahl Bergman), as well as a Wizard (Mako) - are enlisted by King Osric (Max von Sydow) to free his daughter from the hypnotic clutches of the same cult that murdered Conan’s family long ago, led by the shape-shifting sorcerer Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones). Three popcorns for a classic.

Bang Bang You're Dead (2002)
Trevor is a troubled high school student, thanks to the effects of bullying. This is the story of his fight to break free.
I’ve seen this a bazillion years ago, probably like twenty or close to that. Great acting by Ben Foster and Tom Cavanagh in this sad and realistic movie about one of the biggest problems in “the greatest country in the world”. It’s sad that 22 years after this movie was made nothing really changed. And I’m not talking about guns, I’m talking about rich boys bullying their way through high school and daddy making sure there are no consequences. Six popcorns and RIP America.

Coraline (2009)
Wandering her rambling old house in her boring new town, an 11-year-old Coraline discovers a hidden door to a strangely idealized version of her life. In order to stay in the fantasy, she must make a frighteningly real sacrifice.
Great little creepy movie, great for kids and grown upups alike. Although it looks like a scary movie, it tells a good story while showing some really nice visuals. The voices are great (and from good actors), the music is good and it’s a beautiful watch anytime. And just if you were wondering, there’s no CGI in this movie, whatever you see has been hand crafted. Seven popcorns and it jumps into the Movie Vault.

Adventureland (2009)
In the summer of 1987, a college graduate takes a ’nowhere’ job at his local amusement park, only to find it’s the perfect course to get him prepared for the real world.
Starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, Adventureland is about the worst job imaginable that inadvertently turns into the summer that changes everything. Recent college grad, James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) had big plans to spend the summer on a life-altering trek through Europe, but when his parents have financial troubles James gets a summer job at the run down local amusement park, Adventureland, where he falls in love with a witty co-worker, Emily Lewin (Kristen Stewart). In that bizarrely shady workplace, the young carnies have unforgettable and painful learning experiences about life, love and trust while James discovers what he truly values. Excellent coming of age romantic comedy with a great cast and super catchy.

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
The eccentric members of a dysfunctional family reluctantly gather under the same roof for various reasons.
Altough this is Wes Anderosn movie, it’s not boring at all. It is well-paced, well-written and the story moves forward fine. It’s fun and witty and is a good watch. Four popcorns.

Phoenix. Har/Jar (2022)
A documentary film about Phoenix, the legendary Romanian rock band.
Phoenix. Har/Jar reunites the members of the band from the period before the departure of 1977 and punctuates in the 104 minutes of the film the important moments of the tumultuous timeline of the band, from their first appearances in 1962 as “The Saints” to the present, telling, in the first , the events they went through in the country, the relationship with the Security, the moments when they decided to flee Romania and how they managed to do it, but also the life they led abroad before and after the ‘89 Revolution. Four popcorns.

Pleasantville (1998)
Two 1990s teenage siblings find themselves transported to a 1950s sitcom where their influence begins to profoundly change that colorless, complacent world.
Years before he became Spider-Man and went upside down, Tobey Maguire got stuck in a 50s TV show and it made that universe turn upside down. It’ fun, it’s quirky and it’s a great movie. Four popcorns.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024)
When their late police captain gets linked to drug cartels, wisecracking Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett embark on a dangerous mission to clear his name.
Hollywood is the only place where you can do shit at 59 that you couldn’t do at 25. It’s over the top, the bad guys play 5-D chess and they will eventually get caught. The movie is just annoying to follow and couldn’t wait for this to end faster. Three popcorns. Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when retirement comes for you?

The Fall Guy (2024)
A down-and-out stuntman must find the missing star of his ex-girlfriend’s blockbuster film.
Ryan Goosebumps and Emily Blunt in an action packed romantic comedy. What’s more to ask? The movie is filled with references and it’s meta at times, but it’s an enjoyable watch. All in all four popcorns for a movie directed by a former stuntman that puts stuntmen into the spotlight. Great job!

SLC Punk! (1998)
In the early 1980s Stevo, and Heroin Bob are the only two dedicated punks in conservative Salt Lake City.
Made in 1998, starring Matthew Lillard (Cereal from Hackers) and Michael A. Goorjian, it also features then-upcoming actors like Devon Sawa and Jason Segel. It’s a very good story, very well told, sometimes funny, sometimes sad. Six popcorns and it jumps into the Movie Vault.

The Wandering Earth II (2023)
Humans built huge engines on the surface of the earth to find a new home. But the road to the universe is perilous. In order to save earth, young people once again have to step forward to start a race against time for life and death.
Another great screen adaptation of a book by Cixin Liu (after the great adaptation by Tencent of Three-Body // δΈδ½). The effects are great, the story is well written and although there’s a hint of propaganda, all movies are that. All in all, a solid cyberpunk sci-fi coming from outside Hollywood, that not only looks magnificent, but also well written. Seven popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
The origin story of renegade warrior Furiosa before her encounter and teamup with Mad Max.
If it’s in the desert and has skull-adorned steampunk vehicles and clothes and guns, then it’s definitely a Mad Max. While movie is pretty predictable, I honestly don’t care. I wasn’t expecting a life-changing masterpiece, I expected some eye-candy steampunk universe with a lot of explosions. All in all, four popcorns. This is a good blockbuster, properly fitting in the Mad Max universe.
