Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)

๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ / 5

IMDb

After the Kingsman’s headquarters is destroyed and the world is held hostage, an allied spy organization in the United States is discovered. These two elite secret agencies must band together to defeat a common enemy.

The second instalment in the Kingsman series is a solid sequel, tidying up some of the loose ends of the previous movie and going bonkers with both cast, setting, writing and amount of fun. Six popcorns as well and it’s always a joy to see this. It also gets into the Movie Vault.

IMDb

A spy organisation recruits a promising street kid into the agency’s training program, while a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.

Great James Bond-like movie and there’s really not much to say about it. The cast is great, the acting is stellar, the story and the effects are well made. All in all, 6 popcorns for a flick that jumps into the Movie Vault.

Enola Holmes (2020)

Enola Holmes (2020)

๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ / 5

IMDb

When Enola Holmes, Sherlock’s sister, discovers her mother is missing, she endeavors to find her, becoming a super-sleuth in her own right as she outwits her famous brother and unravels a dangerous conspiracy.

Oh, what a great little movie! Breaking the fourth wall with such a casual vibee draws you into the story and makes this movie such a fun one. Lovely acting all along and while not a masterpiece, it’s one of the few movies of the latest years that really lifts up your mood. Six popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault.

Lions for Lambs (2007)

Lions for Lambs (2007)

๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ / 5

IMDb

Injuries sustained by two Army rangers behind enemy lines in Afghanistan set off a sequence of events involving a congressman, a journalist and a professor.

Proper movie about politics and its effects on people, mass media and journalists. It’s bleak, it’s going to make you sad, and looking at what we know now about the US military invasion of Afghanistan, shows how out of reach with humanity the politicians are. Great performances by some great actors. Five popcorns.

Guy Ritchie's the Covenant (2023)

Guy Ritchie's the Covenant (2023)

๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ / 5

IMDb

During the war in Afghanistan, a local interpreter risks his own life to carry an injured sergeant across miles of grueling terrain.

I love most of Guy Ritchie’s movies. If you do the same, then this is not for you. The pacing is good and the tension is there, but this is a war movie, not a Guy Ritchie movie. Jake Gyllenghahahghenaghaal is pretty decent, but that’s where it ends for me. The first act is fine, the second one seems to drag endlessly in the desert and it made me lose my interest. I skimmed a bit through it and after the middle it get again a bit interesting, but still falls just as flat as the US campaign’s defeat in Afghanistan. If you like war movies like Argo, The Hurt Locker and Jarhead, this movie is for you. If you want to see it because you liked Sherlock Holmes, Lock, Stock or Sherlock Holmes, then just go re-watch Snatch. Two popcorns.

IMDb

The British military recruits a small group of highly skilled soldiers to strike against German forces behind enemy lines during World War II.

Based on a true war story, this is a fun movie with a great cast, telling a story that was classified until a few years ago. Five popcorns and is a great Guy Ritchie classic.

Morometii 3 (2024)

Morometii 3 (2024)

๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ / 5

IMDb

The story of Niculae, Moromete’s youngest son, who in the 1950s becomes an acclaimed young writer who lives his life and complicated love stories in a charged atmosphere tainted by suspicion.

An excellent ending to a trilogy based on one of the most popular novels in Romania. Written and Directed by Stere Gulea (the director of the previous two movies) and based on the original works of Marin Preda, it’s an absolute cinematic masterpiece, with nods not only to the ohter two Morometii movies, but also with subtle hints towards other famous works (the book burning was a good scene). All in all, six popcorns for a great movie and I know for sure I’m going to rewatch the first two.

An Irish Goodbye (2022)

An Irish Goodbye (2022)

๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ / 5

IMDb

On a farm in rural Northern Ireland, estranged brothers Turlough (Seamus O’Hara) and Lorcan (James Martin) are forced to reunite following the untimely death of their mother (Michelle Fairley). But when the pair discover an unfulfilled bucket list belonging to their late mum, their pained reunion takes an altogether different course.

Excellent wee movie! It’s short, only 23 minutes long, but it’s so packed with emotion swinging from sad to happy to blue to “whoa”. Definitely one of the best shorts and it goes into the wee Vault of Short Movies I have collected.

IMDb

Bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss is transformed into a manic superhero when he wears a mysterious mask.

One of the most creative and funniest comedies out there that solidified Jim Carrey’s carrer as a comedy genius. I love seeing this every year, I should get it on LaserDisc. Until then, it jumps into the Movie Vault.

Dumb and Dumber To (2014)

Dumb and Dumber To (2014)

๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ / 5

IMDb

20 years since their first adventure, Lloyd and Harry go on a road trip to find Harry’s newly discovered daughter, who was given up for adoption.

Some sequels are brilliant (Terminator 2, The Dark Knight, Silence of the Lambs), this one is not it. It tries to rehash the original jokes and humor and lands short. Two popcorns and you can skip this

Dumb and Dumber (1994)

Dumb and Dumber (1994)

๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ / 5

IMDb

After a woman leaves a briefcase at the airport terminal, a dumb limo driver and his dumber friend set out on a hilarious cross-country road trip to Aspen to return it.

This is the pinnacle of slapstick comedy, one of the movie that made Jim Carrey a world-known superstard (along with The Mask and Ace Ventura, also released in ‘94). The movie is fun, raunchy and it would get cancelled into outer space if it was released in 2024, and it’s always a great rewatch. Seven popcorns and it jumps into the Movie Vault.
