In 1862, Amsterdam Vallon returns to the Five Points area of New York City seeking revenge against Bill the Butcher, his father’s killer.
As waves of immigrants swell the population of New York, lawlessness and corruption thrive in lower Manhattan’s Five Points section. After years of incarceration, young Irish immigrant Amsterdam Vallon returns seeking revenge against the rival gang leader who killed his father. Before long, Amsterdam’s personal vendetta becomes part of an erupting wave of full-blown gang warfare, as he and his fellow Irishmen fight to carve a place for themselves in their newly adopted homeland. Great movie with a great cast, getting six popcorns (even if it’s almost three hours long) and jumping into the Movie Vault.

During Prohibition, Treasury agent Eliot Ness sets out to stop ruthless Chicago gangster Al Capone, and assembles a small, incorruptible team to help him.
Excellent movie based on the true story of Eliot Ness, the man who hunted Al Capone. This classic Brian De Palma movie has probably one of the biggest stars together in a movie: Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Robert De Niro, Andy Garcia. Six popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault.

Great classic movie (already 30 years old!) with a great cast (Johnny Depp, Faye Dunaway, Jerry Lewis, Lili Taylor, Vincent Gallo) under the great direction of Emir Kusturica. Not much to be said about this one, it’s a classic, six popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault.

Cape Fear (1991)
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
A convicted rapist, released from prison after serving a fourteen-year sentence, stalks the family of the lawyer who originally defended him.
Nice to see Robert De Niro in a role different from a mafia man, but still performing a great villain. The pacing and tension are great, after all it’s a Martin Scorsese movie, the rest of the cast acting wonderfully, Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange being stellar, as well as then-young Juliette Lewis (which brought her an Oscar nomination). Five popcorns.

A married couple is forced to reckon with their idealized image of their son, adopted from war-torn Eritrea, after an alarming discovery by a devoted high school teacher threatens his status as an all-star student.
Excellent drama about hard lifes clashing. It’s hard, it’s sad at points, it’s tense, and wven though it’s starring Naomi Waatts, Octavia Spencer and Tim Roth, the acting of Kelvin Harrison Jr. is absolutely fantastic. Five popcorns.

Silent Running (1972)

In a future where all flora is extinct on Earth, an astronaut is given orders to destroy the last of Earth’s botany, kept in a greenhouse aboard a spacecraft.
As this science fiction classic opens, botanist Freeman Lowell (Bruce Dern) has spent eight years aboard the space freighter ‘Valley Forge’ preserving the only botanical specimens left from Earth under huge geodesic domes. When he receives orders to destroy the project and return home, Lowell rebels and hijacks the freighter, while plunging the craft into the gaseous Rings of Saturn. From that moment on, he has only the trees, the gardens and two ‘Drone’ robots, Huey and Dewey, to keep him company on his greatest adventure of all. Five popcorns for a great sci-fi movie.

In a dystopian America, a falsely convicted policeman gets his shot at freedom when he must forcibly participate in a TV game show where convicts, runners, must battle killers for their freedom.
Classic 80s escape movie, with great soundtrack, a good story and dystopian world. Arnold Schwarzenegger does a great job acting the type of roles he used to play, so evreything is set up properly for a good cyberpunk sci-fi thriller. Five popcorns.

Destination Moon (1950)
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
UP UP UP Seven miles a second! The first manned trip to the moon, happening in the (then) near future, and being funded by a consortium of private backers. Assorted difficulties occur and must be overcome in-flight.
Made in 1950, it is not only very informative in regards to space travel, but also set up pretty much all the things that became space movie tropes. Basically this movie is the inspiration for every space disaster movie, creating all the thriller elements (stuff like getting loose during EVA). All in all, this is not only a classic, this is a reference for future generations. Six popcorns.

Duel (1971)
🍿🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
A business commuter is pursued and terrorized by the malevolent driver of a massive tractor-trailer.
One of Spielberg’s earliest movies. 90 minutes of loud screeches, horn sounds and revving engines in a story that could have been told in 15. I get it, it’s Spielberg, it’s art, it’s something special, it’s classic. It’s crap. While the premise is interesting, the action and unfolding of events is pretty meh, both by 70s and 2023 standards. Saw this on fast forward, not disappointed. You can skip it. Two popcorns.
