La grande bellezza // The Great Beauty (2013)
Jep Gambardella has seduced his way through the lavish nightlife of Rome for decades, but after his 65th birthday and a shock from the past, Jep looks past the nightclubs and parties to find a timeless landscape of absurd, exquisite beauty.
Think of it as a coming of age movie, but closer to the end of life. The main character learns the important things in life after his 65th birthday. With a great cast, exquisite filming locations, great music and an excellent tone over all, this movie totally deserved its Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Movie. 5 popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault

La grande bouffe // The Big Feast (1973)
A group of men go to a villa in the French countryside where they resolve to eat themselves to death.
Putting together the performance of Michel Piccoli and Marcello Mastroianni, along with two of the stars of Amici Miei Ugo Tognazzi and Philippe Noiret, this is a good dark comedy/drama, that mixes a lot of feelings. It’s a good movie, a thing almost normal for 1970s Italy, and the only thing that appears more than food is nudity, as it satirises consumerism and the decadence of the bourgeoisie. Four popcorns for this 70s classic.

The Flash (2023)
Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
Entertaining movie altogether, even though at times it feels cringe. Has good pacing, some nice jokes, some over-the-top scenes, good effects and a ton of cameos. Also Michael Keaton carries the movie pretty hard. Five popcorns because of MK and all the other cameos.

Valerie a týden divu // Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970)
Surreal tale in which love, fear, sex and religion merge into one fantastic world, based on a classical Czech novel of the same title.
Eastern European movie at its finest, blending good music, great cinematography with medieval fantasies. The story is not linear, nor it makes too much sense ,but all in all, it feels like an “Alice in Wonderland” mixed with “Twilight” directed more towards mature audiences and it is a good example of great fantasy East European experimental cinematography with a big dose of surrealism. Three popcorns, because it’s different than most other movies.

Lost in Moldova (2020-)
Life-long slacker, Diego, hopes to prove his worth and win back his ex-girlfriend by following her into the Peace Corp, where, in Moldova, and out of his depth, he is forced to overcome his arrogance and learn to help others on their terms.
Funny and quirky little series, focusing on cultural differences and interpersonal relations. For an independent movie, it’spretty well made, the writing is pretty funny and it makes up for a good watch. Too bad it only has six episodes, but the good part is that you can see it on Youtube. Four funny popcorns.
Hai, let’s go!

La Prisonnière // Woman In Chains (1968)
Stanislas Hassler blazes the development of modern art in his gallery, packed with works of surprising shapes, colours and textures, and where exhibitions turn into media events. Gilbert Moreau is one of the artists whose sculptures are on display in the gallery. His wife, Josée, is intrigued by the stern Stanislas, who devotes his free time to photography in an apartment that highlights his sophisticated artistic tastes. But besides enlarged pictures of calligraphic samples, Stanislas is amassing a collection of photographs that reveal a disturbed character. So why would Josée endanger her mature relationship with Gilbert for the morbid observation of Stanislas’s hidden personality?
Excellent last movie of Henri-Georges Clouzot, blending pop art, psychedelic themes, love and lust. Basically, it’s “50 Shades of Gray”, but artsy, and good. Five popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault.

Charly (1968)
An intellectually disabled man undergoes an experiment that gives him the intelligence of a genius.
Charly is a brilliant movie about a stupid person. Because “stupid” means without intelligence, Charly is an incredible mobvie about the human condition and getting over it. It’s emotional, sad, uplifting and inspiring at the same time. Cliff Robertson does a great job at giving life to Charly (role which brought him a well-deserved Oscar), the story is great and the direction is excellent. This is a classic 60s movie that should be on the same shelf with movies like “The Clockwork Orange”, or “2001: Space Odyssey”. Five popcorns and lands into the Movie Vault.

Based on Fantastic Voyage, this is a great movie starring Martin Short, Meg Ryan, Dennis Quaid, Kevin McCarthy, Robert Picardo, and directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins). Adventure mixed with comedy and science fiction make this flick a classic 80s movie. Five popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault.

Fantastic Voyage (1966)
When a blood clot renders a scientist comatose, a submarine and its crew are shrunk and injected into his bloodstream in order to save him.
Excellent retro sci-fi movie. Directed by Richard Fleischer (Soylent Green, Red Sonja, 20000 Leagues Under the Sea), and starring the Edmond O’Brien and Stephen Boyd next to Raquel Welch (RIP) it is a great adventure movie, directed not at the moon and the stars (as most of the movies of the 60s were) but towards the atom, introspecting on the human condition. This movie is so good, it inspired a plethora of other films and TV series. All in all, 5 stars and this classic jumps into the Movie Vault.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)
The Gremlins are back, and this time, they’ve taken control of a New York City media mogul’s high-tech skyscraper.
After the success of the first Gremlins movie, the second flick adds Chuck Jones (Looney Tunes, Tom&Jerry) as a co-director next to Joe Dante. The movie itself is decent, quirky and funny, not as good as the first one, but still delivering a tremendous amount of good time. Four popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault, next to the other one.

Gremlins (1984)
A young man inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town.
This movie needs no introduction. Directed by Joe Dante (Innerspace, Small Soldiers), written by Chris Columbus (The Goonies, The Help, some Harry Potters), and produced by Steven Spielberg, this movie entertains the viewer while keeping him either on the edge of the seat or laughing out loud. Six popcorns for this classic and it jumps into the Movie Vault.
