România Sălbatică // Wild Romania (2021)
Recorded over 10 years, România Salbatica shows the colorful beauty of Romanian nature accompanied with wildlife.
The Carpathian Mountains, the Danube River and the Black Sea, gave birth to the wildest country in Europe. The richness of this place lies in spectacular mountains, in rivers full of life, in healthy forests. Following the four seasons of the year, we will discover the life of the most emblematic animals of Romania and we will unfold the story of the most amazing natural landscapes. The journey begins with the long-awaited arrival of spring, a season of hope when most animals prepare for a new cycle of life. We will continue in summer, the season of plenty, a time when the young animals are starting to enjoy the beauty of life and accept the challenges of nature. The story will come to an end with the arrival of autumn which will turn into winter once more. The season of change will bring new challenges for Romanian wildlife, in a time when the hunters are thriving. From the high peaks of the Fagaras Mountains, to the wetlands of the Danube Delta, we will unveil the best kept secrets of Europe’s wilderness.
I initially saw this in an open-air cinema and thought it was very good. I now got the chance to watch it at home in 1080p, being released by HBO in three parts. Great documentary, stunning visuals, good music and good narration. All in all, six popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
The story of The Super Mario Bros. on their journey through the Mushroom Kingdom.
Usually video games very rarely transpose well to movie format, be it cinema or TV. However, it’s a him, Mario!, and really takes the cake. The visuals are stunning, the pacing is fast and doesn’t let you get bored, the music is fantastic, with great throwbacks to nostalgia. A great movie for all kids for all ages, who smashed box office records, so it will definitely see some sequels. Seven popcorns and jumps into the movie vault. MAMMA MIA!

James May: Our Man In italy (2022)
Season 2・James May is on an Italian job: to explore this great country’s history, culture, landscape, industry, and people. Can a bumbling, middle-aged, British bloke discover the secrets of ’la dolce vita'?
After the first season in Japan, James May lands a bit closer to home and does a South to North trip across Italy, experiencing what Italian means. The level of fun, shenanigans and overall mood is similar to the the Japan trip, which makes it very good too. Let’s hope for more seasons!

James May embarks on a remarkable journey across Japan, from its icy north to its balmy south. He’ll see the sights, meet the locals, and eat the noodles in a bid to truly understand the Land of the Rising Sun.
Excellent entertaining documentary sending Top Gear’s James May to experience the life, habits, culture and people of Japan. It’s fun at and well done, with great shots and good writing, it got me hooked instantly.

Silo (2023-)
In a ruined and toxic future, thousands live in a giant silo deep underground. After its sheriff breaks a cardinal rule and residents die mysteriously, engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) starts to uncover shocking secrets and the truth about the silo.
I’ve only seen three episodes so far and I can say I’m hooked. It’s a good version of the “underground bunker story”, of a post apocalyptic civilization featuring social layers, lore and myths, reminding me a bit of “Snowpiercer”. Let’s hope it won’t get axed before its time.
Regardless, the sets are nicely done, the CGI the same, there’s a slow burning tension growing as the story develops, being propelled by great music, decent writing and good performances. All in all, gets five popcorns and it’s definitely worth watching.

De-as fi... Harap Alb // If I Were Harap Alb (1965)
Lavsh live action fairy tale adaptation featuring the handsome son of a nobleman who embarks on a series of colorful adventures to become a hero.
Nice movie based on the folk tale of Harap Alb, in a colorful way, reminding me a bit of Willy Wonka. Four popcorns.

Nobody (2021)
A docile family man slowly reveals his true character after his house gets burgled by two petty thieves, which, coincidentally, leads him into a bloody war with a Russian crime boss.
This is John Wick, but with cheaper effects, casting and writing. All in all it’s a decent movie to watch with friends, three popcorns.

Hârtia va fi albastră // The Paper Will Be Blue (2006)
Out of enthusiasm, a Militia soldier abandons his platoon and decides to fight for the cause of the Revolution. His Lieutenant and the rest of the crew look for him during the confused night of 22-23 December 1989.
A good movie about the events of the bloodiest night in the Romanian revolution, showing the tragedy, the loss and confusion of some people involved in the events of those days.

Oameni de treaba / Men of Deeds (2022)
Ilie (late 30s) enjoys the easy life of a village policeman. His passivity during a series of violent events soon turns him into an accomplice to murder. Tension accumulates in the village, forcing Ilie to make a final decision.
Comedy about life and death in a Romanian village in Botosani county. Like most Romanian movies, it sticks very close to real daily life, the acting is good, and the tension is actually nice. All in all, four popcorns.
Want me to call back up? Who? Bruce Willis?

Mortal Kombat (2021)
MMA fighter Cole Young seeks out Earth’s greatest champions in order to stand against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe.
It’s what you’d expect from a Mortal Kombat movie, cheesy lines, raunchy jokes, unrealistic fighting coreographies, a lot of gore and a gratuity of violence. What makes this movie legendary is the perfect execution of the role of Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion by Hiroyuki Sanada. All in all, a very good, fun and violent movie for the entire family to enjoy! Six popcorns.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne are dragged into the Quantum Realm, along with Hope’s parents and Scott’s daughter Cassie. Together they must find a way to escape, but what secrets is Hope’s mother hiding? And who is the mysterious Kang?
Paul Rudd is cool, Evangeline Lilly is barely there, Kirk Michael Douglas is still alive, Michelle Pfeiffer is 80 but looks 35. The story, the action, the pew pew is a mess, everything is quantum! Also the diversity department had a field day with this movie, they even cast a broccoli! Also they drink the ooze of a creature that has no holes (how do they take the ooze out?)
All in all a fun pew pew if you want to turn off your brain.
Also, the story seems a shit ton of Jailer and WoW Shadowlands vibes
- ✅ evil cast out by someone into jail
- ✅ evil turns jail around and makes an empire
- ✅ evil is actually good, but for a higher purpose
- ✅ if you kill me, you can’t stop what’s to come

Capra cu trei iezi // The Goat and Her Three Kids (2022)
Secluded from the world, in XIX century rural Romania, a widow and mother of three must defend what’s left of her family, at all costs, from an old family friend turned foe. Based on one of the best-known Romanian folk tales (The Goat and Her Three Kids by Ion Creanga), this film aims to unveil the true nature of the famed bedtime story and to treat the audience to a different perspective, one that offers a glimpse of what the tragedy looks like beyond the happy songs and affable characters.
Nice twist on the old folk tale, with a small cast, few locations, great creepy music and good acting as always by Maia Morgenstern. The Wolf is very well played by master of villains Marius Bodochi.
A tale of sadness and revenge in a solid thriller, unexpected from Romania. Four popcorns.
