Animated adaptation of NieR: Automata (2017), where a long-running war on post-apocalyptic Earth between androids and machines soon unveils the truth of the world.

I have no words. I knew a bit about the NieR (and automata) lore, played a bit the Automata game and decided the styyle is not my favourite. However, this TV series is something else. Eight episodes with perfect pacing, great story and unfolding mysteries. All in all, the best sci-fi TV show I’ve seen this year, by far. Seven popcorns, jumps into the Movie Vault, and can’t wait for the other four episodes that will release on July 23. (And maybe more seasons after)

August 25 Update

Because sometimes live happens, I completely forgot that the remaining episodes of the first season were due to release on June 23 and I kept remembering they were due on August 25. Either way, I managed to see them, and they wrap the story very nicely, with some nice twists and turns. The rating is the same, even better I might add, and I can’t wait for the next season, which was confirmed to be released in 2024.

Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never ending spiral of life and death. Is this a curse? Or some kind of punishment? I often think about the god who blessed us with this cryptic puzzle… and wonder if we’ll ever get the chance to kill him.

Steve Glew spent the 1990s smuggling rare pez dispensers into the USA from Eastern Europe, making millions of dollars. It was all magical until his arch-nemesis, The Pezident decided to destroy him.

Good intense documentary about a toy dealer. While it doesn’t sound like a wow subject, the documentary is so well made, it must be watched. All in all, 5 popcorns and it’s one of the best documentaries I’ve recently seen.

Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy, is accidentally frozen in 1999 and thawed out on New Year’s Eve 2999.

Futurama is back with its eleventh Season in 24 years, after 10 years and the second cancellation. There have been some retcons of how Season 10 ended things and it’s fairly funny and delivers good episodes. Plus, it’s great to hear Katey Sagal (Peg Bundy) again. All in all, four popcorns, because it’s an acquired taste, but still a decent show.

The story of American scientist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, and his role in the development of the atomic bomb.

With a great casting delivering good performances, good music and a ton of special effects, Christopher Nolan manages to keep you entertained for three full hours. The pacing is good, and I felt that the movie couldn’t been any shorter. It overlays, however the story and personal struggle of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the story and hatred of Lewis Strauss. The movie is entertaining, but draining, and it leaves you with some half endings. All in all, it gets four popcorns, but I’d never want to go through the ordeal of seeing this again.

Batman and Robin try to keep their relationship together even as they must stop Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy from freezing Gotham City.

After Batman Forever, Joel Schumacher went on a game of limbo with the Batman franchise, to the question “how low can you go?” answering with “yes”. Casting George Clooney as Bruce Wayne/Batman wasn’t a strong move, but the weakest point of the movie is the tirade of punchlines that Arnold Schwarzenegger uses while playing Mr. Freeze.

The dialogue is cheesy, the effects are bad, and not the hockey skating freeze minions, nor crazy psycho ecologist Uma Thurman (as Poison Ivy) or Alicia Silverstone (Batgirl) can save this movie. The movie is the fourth (and last) Batman movie to cast Michael Gough as the ever-loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth.

It’s so bad it’s good terrible, but it still lands in the Movie Vault for being so awfully fun, even getting three popcorns.

Batman must battle Two-Face and The Riddler with help of an amourous psychologist and a young circus acrobat who becomes his sidekick, Robin.

Losing Tim Burton as a director, but gaining Joel Schumacher (Flatliners, Batman and Robin, 8MM, Phone Booth) moved the direction of the movie from steampunk dark towards one that’s a bit more colorful.

With Val Kilmer as a new Bruce Wayne (one of the best ever), joined by Tommy Lee Jones in his prime as the maniac Two-Face and Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey as E. Nygma/The Riddler, the cast is very solid, including Batman’s love interest played by Nicole Kidman and Robin played by Chris O’Donnell, and they all add together for a pretty good movie.

It’s not as serious and gritty as the previous ones, but it’s still decent and packs a good punch. Five popcorns and reaches the Movie Vault thanks to Val Kilmer.

Oh, and it’s got Drew Barrymore in a small role.

While Batman deals with a deformed man calling himself the Penguin wreaking havoc across Gotham with the help of a cruel businessman, a female employee of the latter becomes the Catwoman with her own vendetta.

After the success of the first Batman, the sequel directed by Tim Burton as well can only be just as good. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman and Danny de Vito as the Penguin, the result is a movie that is also a classic, raising itself to the same level of its predecessor and putting itself on the Movie Vault. Six popcorns.

The Dark Knight of Gotham City begins his war on crime with his first major enemy being Jack Napier, a criminal who becomes the clownishly homicidal Joker.

Oh boy, is this a classic or what? Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Jack Nicholson as the Joker, Kim Basinger as the love interest, directed by Tim Burton and scored by Danny Elfman? This is a half dark, half colorful steampunk superhero movie that is both entertaining, funny and gritty, maybe one of the best movies based on a comic book ever made. Seven popcorns for sure and leaps into the Movie Vault.

A traffic officer who likes playing detective starts investigating a case, uncovering dangers beyond what he thought was a simple bookie robbery.

Denzel is a traffic cop, but he dreams of American movies and wants to solve complex cases. Because he started digging where he shouldn’t, Denzel and his action pack reach an impasse. Decent fun cop movie with a good cast and realistic acting. All in all, a fun comedy with some dark twists for a lazy Saturday evening. Four popcorns for the Garcea cameo.

There’s not much to say about this. It’s weird, it’s quirky, it’s got weird sciencey fictiony words and concepts. It’s the legendary start of a legendary universe, the TV show that made William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and their characters world-famous. And beyond. While it definitely has a dated feel, it’s a great classic that everyone should see at least once. Seven popcorns and warps into the Movie Vault.
