The Right Stuff (1983)
The U.S. space program’s development from the breaking of the sound barrier to selection of the Mercury 7 astronauts, from a group of test pilots with a more seat-of-the-pants approach than the program’s more cautious engineers preferred.
First of all, this is not about the 2020 mini-series made by NatGeo. That shit is stupidly retarded and takes a piss at a good story. Watch this instead. It’s a movie over three hours that is packed with action and storytelling, great writing and beautiful acting. It features some great actors, some at peak or close to it, like Lance Henriksen, Ed Harris, Dennis Quaid, Scot Glenn, even Jeff Goldblum without glasses! Six popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault.

The Wind Rises // ้ขจ็ซใกใฌ // Kaze Tachinu (2013)
A look at the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed Japanese fighter planes during World War II.
This decades-spanning epic from maestro Hayao Miyazaki is his most unique films to date. Inspired by the stories of Jiro Horikoshi, visionary designer of one the most beautiful airplanes in history โ the famed Zero fighter โ and the writer Tatsuo Hori, this tale of love and perseverance in a turbulent world is brought to life by the vivid animation of Studio Ghibli. An excellent annimation from Studio Ghibli in the unmistakable style, direction and writing of Hayao Miyazaki. Just as with any other Japanese movie, watch it with the original Japanese voices. Five popcorns.

The Tale of The Princess Kaguya // ใใใๅงซใฎ็ฉ่ช // Kaguya-hime no Monogatari (2013)
Found inside a shining stalk of bamboo by an old bamboo cutter and his wife, a tiny girl grows rapidly into an exquisite young lady. The mysterious young princess enthralls all who encounter her, but ultimately she must confront her fate, the punishment for her crime.
Based on the classic Japanese folktale, “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter”, “The Tale of The Princess Kayuga” is the strikingly beautiful culmination of decades of contemplation by director and Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata. The animation is simple and beautiful, reminding of ol Japanese watercolour art. The soundtrack is exceptional, and the voice acting is beautiful, but make sure to watch it with the original Japanese voices. All in all, six popcorns for an extraordinary movie which jumps into the Movie Vault, next to other Studio Ghibli movies.

Catch-22 (2019)
Limited series adaptation of the classic Joseph Heller novel. Follows Captain John Yossarian and airmen in World War II.
Christopher Abbott is Yossarian, a bombardier, whose frantic obsession every time he goes up on a mission is โto come down aliveโ. His odds of success at such a simple aim keep getting worse, because Colonel Cathcart (Kyle Chandler) keeps raising the number of missions the men have to fly. More than the retreating Germans, the real enemy for Yossarian and his rag-tag bunch of friends is the bureaucracy of the military, inverting logic at every turn. The pinnacle of this is Catch-22, a military by-law which states that if you fly your missions, youโre crazy, and donโt have to fly them; all you have to do is ask. But if you as not to, then youโre sane, and so you have to fly them. George Clooney stars as the barking mad, parade-obsessed Scheisskopf. Hugh Laurie is the mellow, slightly checked-out Major de Coverley. Clooney directs the six-episode series, along with Grant Heslov and Ellen Kuras. Six popcorns for an excellent comedy mini-series that marches to the Movie Vault.

Gayniggers from Outer Space (1992)
Extraterrestrial beings travel the galaxy to free men “oppressed” by females to make way for an entirely-homosexual society.
In the cinema world, there are some hidden masterpieces that no one know about. Things that revolutionize the cinema, not only as an industry, but also as art. This is one of them, all of them, and none of them. Feels like it’s made in the 70s and filmed with a potato, while being recorded on cabbage leaves, it tells the story of some advanced beings from outer space, coming from far away on their ship Ringmusculaturus II to save the planet from the female oppression.

In the Loop (2009)
A political satire about a group of skeptical American and British operatives attempting to prevent a war between two countries.
Britain and America; friends and allies as far back as anyone can remember. Both the US President and UK Prime Minister fancy a war but not everyone agrees including US Assistant Secretary for Diplomacy, US Army General (James Gandolfini) and a floundering British Minister Simon Foster (Tom Hollander). When Foster accidentally announces on national TV that war is unforeseeable, the British government is sent into a spiral of chaos and spin propagated by verbosely aggressive Director of Communications, Malcom Tucker (Peter Capaldi). Foster attempts to neutralise his unforeseeable comment by telling the British public to prepare to climb the mountain of conflict but soon finds himself bundled off to Washington on a fact-finder where he becomes both a pawn for the secret war committee and a poster-boy for the General and the Assistant Secretary for Diplomacys anti-war campaign. Funny and smart, it feels like a good TV-show condensed into almost two hours of political tomfoolery and fumbling. Three popcorns, because I’m not a huge fan of the genre, but it could have been an easy four.

A Touch of Sin // ๅคฉๆณจๅฎ (2013)
Four independent stories set in modern China about random acts of violence.
Internationally acclaimed Chinese master Jia Zhangke (The World) won the Best Screenplay prize at Cannes for this startling โ and startlingly violent โ modern wuxia tale of four outcasts on the margins of a rapidly changing China, who channel their underclass rage into a bloody and murderous rampage.
His portrait of China unfolds in four chapters, following an episodic structure that seems to adopt the brevity and concision of weibo (China’s Twitter-like microblogs). The film unveils the tragic destiny of four sinners from four different provinces: a miner (Jiang Wu) who takes revenge on a corrupt village chief; a gun-loving migrant worker (Wang Baoqiang) who shoots his way to easy money; a modest sauna receptionist (Zhao Tao) who, humiliated by a client, turns into a fierce, dagger-wielding goddess; and an abused youth (Luo Lanshan) who endures long working hours and all manner of psychological violence.
A fascinating mix of social realism and contemporary kung fu, A Touch of Sin invents a new form of martial arts cinema: filmic tai chi for the poor of this world, those who have learned to turn abuse into willingness to fight injustice.
Five popcorns.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Ethan Hunt and his IMF team must track down a dangerous weapon before it falls into the wrong hands.
In Mission: Impossible โ Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission โ not even the lives of those he cares about most.
Classic Mission Impossible action and feeling, but unfortunately they fucking started to split every fucking movie into two parts. So as a movie it’s only half a movie. Four popcorns, maybe it’ll get two more if the following movie is good.

Gangs of New York (2002)

Before long, Amsterdamโs personal vendetta becomes part of an erupting wave of full-blown gang warfare, as he and his fellow Irishmen fight to carve a place for themselves in their newly adopted homeland. Great movie with a great cast, getting six popcorns (even if it’s almost three hours long) and jumping into the Movie Vault.

The Untouchables (1987)
During Prohibition, Treasury agent Eliot Ness sets out to stop ruthless Chicago gangster Al Capone, and assembles a small, incorruptible team to help him.
Excellent movie based on the true story of Eliot Ness, the man who hunted Al Capone. This classic Brian De Palma movie has probably one of the biggest stars together in a movie: Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Robert De Niro, Andy Garcia. Six popcorns and jumps into the Movie Vault.
