The demented Sci-fi shorts anthology is back with its fourth volume. The quality is way lower than the other seasons and it makes for an interesting watch that gives no incentive for a re-watch. Each episode has its better parts and (mostly) lesser parts, and while I don’t regret seeing this, it’s not a must-see.
Can’t Stop
String puppets of the Red Hot Chili Peppers rock out at Ireland’s Slane Castle, reimagining their iconic 2003 concert through creative marionette artistry.
Directed by the insane David Fincher, this is has no story and is just a show-off episode. While there’s a lot of hate for this, I still it’s a decent short. People should lay off the internet more and just enjoy. 3x🍿
Close Encounters of the Mini Kind
A miniaturized alien invasion unfolds through unique tilt-shift photography, turning catastrophic destruction into an oddly adorable spectacle of chaos and human folly.
Got all the classic alien invasion tropes, and if feels like a mini-Independence Day. Very funny at times, although the pacing is a bit too fast to properly see all the fun stuff and easter eggs. Try watching it at half speed, the details are definitely worth it. 4x🍿
Spider Rose
In a distant asteroid mine, a heartbroken tech-enhanced worker finds unexpected friendship and the opportunity to confront her spouse’s killer from a rival genetic-modifying faction.
Alien-infused cyberpunk sci-fi flick, mixing emotions and excellent world building. Very gripping episode with absolutely cute little creatures. 3x🍿
400 Boys
In a devastated urban landscape, rival gangs live by ancient samurai principles. When a ruthless new faction emerges, former enemies must join forces to survive.
I love the animation and it works so well with a post apocalyptic LA-style gangs and together it makes up for a nice hack and slash episode. 2x🍿
The Other Large Thing
A scheming housecat named Sanchez teams up with his tech-savvy robotic butler to pursue an ambitious plan: taking over the entire world. The butler’s internet-hacking abilities might just make their wild dream possible.
First of all, if you think the cat’s voice is familiar, it’s Chris Parnell (who voiced Cyril in Archer). It’s a brilliant story of what cats can do with opposable thumbs and it’s not only futuristic and cyberpunk-ish, but it’s also very funny. 4x🍿
Golgotha
A vicar welcomes an alien visitor who’s convinced their divine savior has returned to Earth - in the form of a dolphin. A quirky sci-fi tale starring Rhys Darby.
Loved to see Rhys Darby (who played Angus in The Boat that Rocked) in this live-action short movie that mixes sci-fi, fiction, religion fanaticism and lovecraftian creatures. 4x🍿
The Screaming of the Tyrannosaur
In a luxurious orbital station above Jupiter, elite socialites flock to watch enhanced warriors battle atop lethal, custom-bred dinosaurs in a high-stakes arena spectacle.
In the most diversity tick-boxing episode we have naked women fighting, kissing then fighting, dinosaurs, Mr. Beast, character talking Mandarin, because of course dinosaurs speak Mandarin. I fucking swear this script was written by ChatGPT and/or an 11 year old kid. 3x🍿
How Zeke Got Religion
B-17 Flying Fortress Liberty Belle has the oddest mission of World War Two: a journey into occupied France to bomb a church before the Nazis can raise an ancient evil.
World War II meets Lovecraftian horror in the best episode of the season. It’ s fucked up, it’s strange, it’s the proper amount of horror and I like the animation style. 5x🍿
Smart Appliances, Stupid Owners
Bathroom appliances and objects come to life to share their funny and sarcastic opinions about the humans who use them on a daily basis, revealing stories from their peculiar point of view.
A collection of testimonials coming from your general IoT devices that everyone buys, but no one actually makes the effort of reading the manuals. I loved spotting the voices of Kevin Hart, Josh Brenner and Amy Sedaris, but the best voice in the world is definitely the one of Brett Goldstein. Funny and creative, 5x🍿
Was I Stalin in the previous life?
For He Can Creep
In 18th century London, an institutionalized poet must protect humanity from Satan’s apocalyptic plans, with only his feline companion to help him resist the Devil’s demands for a world-ending verse.
Great concept and excellent animation technique, I really loved this episode and it’s one of the strongest of the Fourth Season (not like the bar was set very high or something). 4x🍿
