A deeply personal coming-of-age story about the strength of family and the generational pursuit of the American Dream.
This is definitely an over-pretentious movie. I wouldn’t say it’s bad, but it’s not good either. The filming style is pure shit, every fucking scene is so dimly lit, it’s like they didn’t have electricity in the 80s.
The story progresses slowly and focuses around a spoiled brat, with shit humour and his dysfunctional family.
The kid actor makes a good job at making you despise and hate him and wish him to step on a Lego, so I guess that’s a good thing, but not even the combined strength of Anthony Hopkins, Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong can’t pull out of the water too much. Critics will love this, so I expect an Oscar nomination for no reason. Oh, and the ending is shit.
