Searching (2018)
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
After his teenage daughter goes missing, a desperate father tries to find clues on her laptop.
A story told entirely through a character’s laptop screen, this is a nice approach to movie making, making it not only interesting, but also a good paced thriller that keeps you glued to the screen. Loved the twists and turns and how the movie hits you right in the feels every now and then. Five popcorns and it goes into the Movie Vault.

Parasite // Gisaengchung (2019)
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
Greed and class discrimination threaten the newly formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan.
Based on a brilliant premise, members of the poor Kim family slowly infiltrate the life of the wealthy Park family. Great dark comedy mixed with drama elements which put Korean movies once again on the map, Bong Joon Ho’s movie getting four Oscars, including for Best Movie. I’m not sure if it was the best movie of 2019, but it was definitely a nice watch. Six popcorns and goes into the Movie Vault.

Mother // Madeo (2009)
🍿🍿🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
A mother desperately searches for the killer who framed her son for a girl’s horrific murder.
Hye-ja is a single mom to 27-year-old Do-joon. Her son is her raison dêtre. Though an adult in years, Do-joon is naïve and dependent on his mother, and a constant source of anxiety, often behaving in ways that are foolish or simply dangerous. Walking home alone one night down a nearly empty city street, he encounters a young girl who he follows for a while before she disappears into a dark alley. The next morning, she is found dead in an abandoned building and Do-joon is accused of her murder. Thanks to an inefficient lawyer and an apathetic police force, Do-joons case is quickly closed, but his mother refuses to let this be the end of the story. Trusting no one, Hye-jas maternal instincts kick into overdrive, and she sets out to find the girls killer and prove her sons innocence. From Bong Joon Ho, director of Parasite and Mickey 17. Three popcorns for a good movie.

A paranoid, secretive surveillance expert has a crisis of conscience when he suspects that the couple he is spying on will be murdered.
Good conspiracy thriller focusing around a surveillance expert, masterfully played by Gene Hackman, in a tense and interesting movie written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. With John Cazale, Allen Garfield, Harrison Ford and Robert Duvall, the cast is helping this be a masterpiece, the last act being an excellent display of tension, thrills and great story telling that will keep you glued to the secreen. Seven popcorns and it goes into the Movie Vault.

Captain America: Brave New World (2025)
🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, finds himself in the middle of an international incident and must discover the motive behind a nefarious global plan.
So the Falcon is now Captain America. After retiring the original Avengers cast, we get a bleak attempt from Marvel to revive the Avengers franchise. You throw in the discount Captain Panama, actors like Harrison Ford, Liv Tyler, Giancarlo Esposito next to Anthony Mackie (who really tries to carry the movie), but despite the diversity checkboxes that hollywood needs to check with every production, the writing is shit. The story is dumb, the technology is moronic and there’s nothing really happening here. The quality of the MCU has dropped constantly and this is no better. Unfortunately, all the budget has been spent on actors, effects, marketing, but not on writing, which makes this a flop. I barely resisted about 40 minutes into it before starting to skip ahead. The fight between him and the Red Hulk could have been decent, but the CGI is so fucked up, it looks like a B-movie. I mean fucking look at it. At least, everything is fine in the end, with the power of talking and family. One popcorn, but even that is pretty burnt.

Mickey 17 (2025)
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
During a human expedition to colonize space, Mickey 17, a so-called “expendable” employee, is sent to explore an ice planet.
From director Bong Joon Ho (Parasite, Okja, Snowpiercer), comes a complex starring Robert Pattinson, blending dark comedy, drama, cyberpunk, science-fiction and alien invasion. I always loved these quirky sci fi movies and while it doesn’t have the beauty of Moon, it still is a good and creative movie. I really liked that the first half hour is basically just backstory and world building, which is pretty rare for a blockbuster released in 2025, and the couple Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo are really good in their roles as well. Six popcorns and it goes to the Movie Vault.

A man likes a woman at work. He sees her get murdered. He gets drunk and zapped at 12:01AM. Next morning she’s back and everything is exactly like the day before. The time loops gives him chances to save her.
Based on similar principles like Groundhog Day, this is another time loop movie, with funny moments and tense ones as well. Loved the darker tone and it was made in 1993, which gives it a strong “The Outer Limits” or “Twilight Zone” vibe. Five popcorns and it goes into the Movie Vault.

Whose Life Is It Anyway? (1981)
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
Ken Harrison is an artist who makes sculptures. One day he is involved in a car accident, and is paralyzed from his neck down. All he can do is talk, and he wants to die. In hospital he make friends with some of the staff, and they support him when he goes to trial to be allowed to die.
Excellent existentialist movie that keeps you glued to the screen with your mind crunching for two hours. Directed by John Badham (Warargames), and starring Richard Dreyfuss in probably the best role of his life, next to John Cassavetes, Christine Lahti and Bob Balaban, this movie is deep, thoughtful and with a lot of funny moments. Seven popcorns for this funny drama that goes into the Movie Vault.

Palm Springs (2020)
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
Nyles and Sarah find themselves stuck in a time loop and living the same day over and over again. They are drawn to each other, but certain revelations threaten their budding romance.
The chemistry between Andy Samber and Christin Milioti is top-tier in this high-concept time loop movie. It feels like a more modern quirky renndition of “The Groundhog Day”, which tells a fun quantum story in an enjoyable way. J.K. Simmons is also a great presence in this. Six popcorns and it goes into the Movie Vault.

Top Secret! (1984)
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
An American rock and roll singer is invited to a cultural festival in East Germany in order to distract from a plot to destroy NATO submarines, but he accidentally becomes involved in a resistance plot to rescue an imprisoned scientist.
Coming from the genius behind “Airplane!”, “Police Squad!” and “Hot Shots!”, this movie is one of the greatest slapstick parodies of all time, bringing together the likes of Val Kilmer (RIP), Omar Sharif, Jeremy Kemp and Lucy Gutteridge. The jokes are fantastic, the slapstick is spot on, and it is one of the funniest comedies I’ve seen recently. Seven popcorns and it goes into the Movie Vault.

The Tick (2001-2002)
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 / 5 • IMDb Link
The story of superhero The Tick, based on the popular comic book.
Excellent short series starring Partick Warburton as The Tick, in a great incarnation of the superhero. Nestor Carbonell (Lost) does also a great job giving life to Batmanuel. Seven popcorns for this very short (9 episodes at 20 minutes each) that should have had many other seasons.
